TITLE: GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS

He has filled me with bitterness; he has sated me with wormwood. 16-18 He has made my teeth grind on gravel  and made me cower in ashes my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is;  so I say, “My endurance has perished;  so has my hope from the Lord.”  19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! 20 My soul continually remembers it  and is bowed down within me. LAMENTATIONS 3:15-20

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:  The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. LAMENTATIONS 3:21-23

IN THIS PASSAGE WE FIND THREE TRUTHS

TRUTH #1 GOD GIVES HOPE

O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. Psalm 130:7

O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 131:3

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,  and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,  and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. ROMANS 5:2-5

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  they are new every morning

TRUTH #2 THE LORD’S STEADFAST LOVE

“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. DEUTERONOMY 28:1-2

“But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you. DEUTERONOMY 28:15

My son,  do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.  For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” HEBREWS 12:5-6

great is your faithfulness.

TRUTH #3  THE LORD’S FAITHFULNESS

Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the essence of things not seen.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed 2 Corinthians 4:9

In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

looking to Jesus, the founder and completer of our faith….Hebrews 11:2

REVELATION 1:4 who is and who was and who is to come

JOHN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

PHILIPPIANS 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” MATTHEW 14:28-31

FOR PETER THE ISSUE IS SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD DOUBT

WHEN WE FAIL IN THE ……looking to Jesus, the founder and completer of our faith….Hebrews 11:2 WE ARE LIKE PETER; IT’S NOT THE WAVES, IT’S THE DOUBTING!
