TEXT: “Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.”  II TIMOTHY 2:20-21
“Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay…” II Timothy 2:20
I. TYPES OF VESSELS
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not
to us. II CORINTHIANS 4:7
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. 21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” MATTHEW 20:20-21
“But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.  It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life
as a ransom for many.” MATTHEW 20:25-28
“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus” ROMANS 1:1
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” GALATIANS 1:10
“…Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?” JAMES 4:4
“And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” LUKE 23:42-43
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” LUKE 19:10
“Not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” II PETER 3:9
“Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” ISAIAH 55:6-7
“For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” REVELATION 3:7
“some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.” II Timothy 2:20
II. USEAGE
And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall
be hidden.” ISAIAH 29:13-14
“Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of
the LORD our God.” JEREMIAH 3:25
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use.” II Timothy 2:21
III. CLEANSE
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags….ISAIAH 64:6
Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. ISAIAH 1:18
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure
water. HEBREWS 10:19-22
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. II CHRONICLES 7:13-14
“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” LUKE 18:10-14
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I JOHN 1:9
“he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” II Timothy 2:21
IV. THE GOALS
